The Falklands War MOD Posted at 01:15AM, 5-May-03
It began on April 2nd 1982, apparently as a trivial incident on a vast and inhospitable island. It ended in a war costing hundreds of lives and billions of pounds. Argentinian scrap metal merchants had illegally landed and raised the Argentinian Flag on the island of South Georgia. The next day the BBC World Service announced that the Falklands had been invaded. ...

Interview: [ASH] Posted at 01:35AM, 29-Aug-02
The Falklands War MOD have been hard at work for the last few months now, and they're still at it. Every so often they post great looking pictures on their site of the new units, weapons, vehicles and terrain we can look forward to once it's released. I managed to interview [ASH] (project leader) about the progress of their MOD, and to gain some insight into what goes into MOD making: ____________________________________________________ OpFlashpoint.org (Intruder): Everyone kno...

Cinematics Tutorial, Part 1 Posted at 08:29AM, 24-Jul-02
Intros, Outros, Cutscenes. These are the "candy" of mission making, yet they can often make or break a mission. Done properly, a good cinematic stages the mission, introduces the mission plot, provides tension, or tension-relief. A good mission can be made great by creative cinematics, but it can also be ruined by a poorly made cinematic. There are two broad ways to create a cinematic. The first is purely within the Editor, using Waypoints, Triggers and Logic Units. The second is through scr...

Resistance Review Posted at 04:31AM, 29-Jun-02
Today saw the release of Flashpoint Resistance, set several years before the origanal game. Resistance adds all new island and textures to the game and sees you playing on the side of the resistance (hench the name Duh!). The Package comes with CD, Manaual with CD Key and a Note to Gamers which basically states that Shortcuts for the Origanal will not work and how to play Resistance :) The manual is really basic and manly deals with multiplayer code. but does mention 2 updates one t...

Sound/Music Tutorial Posted at 11:24AM, 9-May-02
Sounds, Music and Speech are some of the most interesting aspects of mission-making in OFP. The inclusion of any/all of them can take a mission to a new level of fun. For example, the mission "Air Cavalry" by Kyllikki includes a Jimi Hendrix song during a chopper ride. I made special note of this during the review, as it was enjoyed by all the players at the time. Let's face it, long chopper/boat/truck rides can be really boring with nothing to listen to or do :). Until the use of voice...

REVIEW: Between The Lines Posted at 08:31PM, 4-Mar-02
I have done this review in the standard map review format. Lets face it a campaign is just a bunch of maps strung together. Even if they are making you pay for it. ============================ Name: Between The Lines. Author: xmp URL: www.xmp.de ============================ Author’s Notes: With this CD you get three completely independent new campaigns, which will keep players glued to their PC for hours. "Between the Lines" is about a ...

Common Problems in Mission-Making Posted at 02:33AM, 12-Dec-01
Some of the most common problems i see when reviewing missions are the "__cur_sp" error, and the jerky camera. Well, here's some answers for you all on how to get rid of this. __cur_sp Error The "__cur_sp" and "__cur_mp" problems are caused by missing mission titles when the mission is exported from the OFP editor. It takes a good 10 seconds to fix this problem. Up in the top right corner of the editor window is the Intel section. Here you can set the weather, ti...

Description.ext tutorial Posted at 12:24PM, 8-Nov-01
We've all played the maps where you could chose different weapons in the briefing before the mission starts. Well, this is done via the description.ext file. and here's how you can do it for your custom maps. EDIT Thanks to KnYnE for emailing me about an error in the example file. A misplaced ";" sorta screws you :). Anyway, i've fixed that bug, plus updated the example file to include the strings for the new weapons released in the Beta 1.29 Patch. These are : MM1 / 6...

Streelamps Tute Posted at 11:25AM, 8-Nov-01
Streetlamps. Rather than a long winded, and prattish article, here's a nice simple way to do this. I take absolutely no credit :) The addon collection by Armourdave & Kegetys is the place this addon comes from. Kudos to these lads for this :) Anyway. get this file. put it in you addons folder. Voila, you now have 4 new entries in the editor. EMPTY -----> Objects ----------> Streetlamp White ----------> Streetlamp Red ----------> St...

Animations Tutorial Posted at 01:27PM, 30-Oct-01
So, you want your AI's to have a bit more movement ingame ? well, here's one way to do it. Using the "ACTION" command, you can make your AI's pretty much do anything you desire. In fact, for some functions in scripts to work, you are required to use the ACTION command. For example, i've yet to see a parachuting script that doesn't use the unitname action ["EJECT"] function. One thing to note. I've had mixed success with using these commands in the init field of units. Pers...

Tutorial - Briefings for SP & MP Posted at 12:46PM, 14-Oct-01
So, Briefings. Personally, I think these are vital parts of the mission. Here's a simple tutorial :) As the difference between SP and MP briefings is fairly miniscule, I’ll be showing you first how to make a SP briefing, and then explaining the differences. Briefings are nothing more than html pages. In fact, you only need one html page to cover the briefing, notes, and objectives section. This means you'll need to be familiar with basic HTML.. And I do mean basic :) ...

What Bugs Me, Part 1 Posted at 02:48PM, 8-Oct-01
How irritating do you find it, when you load up a map for OFP, and there's no briefing? Personally, it bugs the hell out of me. Briefing are an essential part of the OFP experience. How else can you, as the mission-maker, explain to the players, who are your target audience, what the hell the mission is about? Now, i'm not here to point fingers at any map-makers, as that is silly. Rather, i'm appealing to your sense of accomplishment. Take pride in your work, and finish the mis...

Viktor Bocan Interview Posted at 03:15PM, 6-Oct-01
OpFlashpoint.org's Interview with Viktor Bocan. Any questions can be emailed to sentinel@opflashpoint.org, and we give many thanks to Viktor for his time. OpFlashpoint.org chats with Viktor Bocan.
